Work Shop

The YVGMS workshop was opened to educate the general public in lapidary arts. The workshop is staffed with knowledgeable experts and the necessary equipment to complete almost any lapidary project. Training is provided to anyone wishing to use the shop.

The workshop has equipment for:

  • Cutting, grinding and polishing

  • Silversmithing

  • Casting

  • Sphere making

  • Faceting

The session fee is $10.00 for members, $12.00 for non-members - Friday is 6 extended hours with different pricing depending on when you check in - if you check in before 4-6pm you pay $2.00 more than after 6pm. There are other fees for using specific equipment, such as the 30" saw fee. Everyone is responsible for providing grit for use with the sphere machine; the workshop will sell grit if you need it.

The workshop is open for use by ALL CLUBS and the general public, provided the following conditions are met:

  • Members and visitors must sign the attendance record and pay the shop fee each time before starting work;

  • If you are a visitor, you are welcome to use the facilities if you have been instructed and certified in proper an dsafe use of the equipment (a YVGMS shop committee member will verify that you know how to use the equipment);

  • A parent or adult sponsor must accompany any minors, and the adult will be held responsible for the child's behavior.

Classes

Classes in Beginning and Intermediate Silversmithing, Sand Casting, PMC Clay, Lost Wax Casting, Faceting, Wire Wrapping, and other lapidary subjects are announced periodically as instructors are available. An email is sent to members, then posted on the Facebook site and website a day or two later. Students register for classes by sending an email to Marla Reagle, YVGMSClasses@gmail.com. You may view a list of classes on our Facebook page.

YVGMS is always looking for instructors who can volunteer their time to share their knowledge and expertise with those of us who want to learn new skills and techniques.  If you would like to teach, please contact Marla Reagle.  YVGMS will take care of publicizing your class, ordering supplies, setting and cleaning up, collecting fees, and being available during class to help as needed! All you will need to do is teach!
